Research Interests: Dr. Hoekstra’s implementation science research program focuses on improving (virtual) health services and care for equity-deserving groups in rural, remote and other isolated communities. Her research involves studying implementation processes of health innovations in real-world settings from different perspectives. To maximize the quality and impact of her work, she meaningfully engages research users as partners throughout the research process.

Research Interests: To determine neuroprotective strategies to improve outcomes for patients suffering an acute central nervous system injury. We conduct studies across the translational continuum in pre-clinical disease models, healthy human studies, and clinical patient studies to characterize the pathophysiology of acute traumatic and/or ischemic central nervous system injury. This includes a focus on determining how we can optimize oxygen delivery to the brain and spinal cord following an acute injury.

Research Interests: Little's research is focused on understanding how the metabolic disruptions that characterize type 2 diabetes affect cellular inflammation and explore how different exercise and nutritional strategies can be used to reduce inflammation and improve overall cardiometabolic health.

Research Interests: The overall goals of my research are to investigate how physical activity behaviours relate to current and long-term health outcomes in children in both clinical and community-based settings, and to identify strategies to improve physical activity participation in children. I collaborate with Interior Health on projects relating to pediatric diabetes and BC Children's Hospital Research Institute to address physical activity behaviours in children and youth with congenital heart disease.
