Membership Types, Benefits, and Criteria

Investigator – Investigators with a faculty appointment in the Southern Medical Program or Investigators conducting funded research with Centre infrastructure*

Affiliate Investigator – Investigators appointed to other university or health authority units who are not conducting funded research with Centre infrastructure

Affiliate Clinician – Clinicians who do not self-identify as ‘investigators’ but who play a role in Centre activities.

Community Partner –An individual or organization who does not self-identify as an investigator or clinician but plays a role in Centre activities.

Trainees – Graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, whose primary supervisor is a Centre Member in good standing, will be automatically granted Centre membership.

*Defined as having a UBC Research Project Information Form (RPIF) signed by the Centre Director, or a long-term contractual arrangement to use Centre infrastructure.

  • Opportunities to engage with scientists, clinicians and community partners interested in chronic disease prevention and management research.
  • Eligible to apply for Centre Research Seed Grants.
  • Eligible to apply for Centre Trainee Travel Awards.
  • Access to Centre knowledge translation and research participant recruitment platforms.
  • Access to Centre webinars, Lunch and Learns, speaker events and other programs.
  • Access to the Clinical Research and QI Incubator Program.
  • Complementary registration for the Centre annual research meeting.
  • At least 50% of research time is devoted to research in at least one of the three pillar areas.
  • Participate in monthly Centre leadership-team meetings.
  •  Serve on at least one Centre leadership-team committee per year.
  • Provide an annual report of research activities.
  • Participate in Centre retreats.
  • Participate in the Centre annual meeting and encourage/support their trainees to participate
  • Recognize their Centre affiliation on papers, posters, etc.
  • Provide student mentorship within the Centre (e.g., as a supervisor, participating on graduate student committees)..
  • Serve on Centre grant, scholarship, or other award committees.
  • At least 25% of research time is devoted to research in at least one of the three pillar areas.
  • Participate in the Centre annual meeting and encourage/support their trainees to participate.
  • Recognize their Centre affiliation on papers, posters, etc.
  • Provide student mentorship within the Centre (e.g., as a supervisor, participating on graduate student committees).
  • Serve on Centre grant, scholarship, or other award committees.
  • Membership will be reviewed every 3 years.
  • Professional interest in chronic disease prevention or management.
  • Participate in the Centre annual meeting.
  • Collaborate with Centre Investigators/Affiliate Investigators on research or knowledge. translation or student mentorship activities
  • Serve on Centre grant, scholarship, or other award committees.
  • Membership will be reviewed every 3 years
  • Professional/personal interest in, or organizational mandate addressing, chronic disease prevention or management.
  • For organizational partners, a formal UBC agreement (e.g., Collaborative Research Agreement) or contract must be in place between the partner and the Centre or a Centre Investigator.
  • Participate in Centre annual meeting.
  • Collaborate with Centre Investigators/Affiliate Investigators on research or KT or student mentorship activities.
  • Membership will be reviewed every 3 years.
  • Applicants are to provide their CV along with a brief email or letter outlining:
    1. how their background meets/aligns with the Centre membership criteria.
    2. why they want to become a Centre member.
    3. how they will contribute to the Centre
  • Applicants will be required to seek out, and have their application endorsed by, a current Centre member.
  • Applications will be reviewed by a Membership Committee.
  • Applications from Community Partners must also be approved by the Centre Director.
